From the: Letter of Dr. Esperanza Cabral to the Editor in Chief, Philippine Daily Inquirer
October 30, 2009 In: Official Statements
-
“We do not deserve this demolition job that was started by some publicity hungry bimbo that is now being gleefully carried forward by all sorts of characters of dubious motivation and media outfits who have seen a chance to yet attack a government that they do not like.”
The definition of BIMBO:
From MSN Encarta
1. an offensive term for an attractive woman who is regarded as unintelligent and shallow
2. an offensive term for a man or woman who is regarded as unintelligent or superficial
From Dictionary.com Unabridged
1. a foolish, stupid, or inept person.
2. a man or fellow, often a disreputable or contemptible one.
3. Disparaging and Offensive. an attractive but stupid young woman, esp. one with loose morals.
(Ella: Loose morals, BABAENG KALADKARIN sa Tagalog? Hmmm…interesting)
From the Thesaurus
1.a young woman indulged by rich and powerful older men
(Ella: Huh? KABIT naman ngayon? Hmmm…interesting ulit)
From Collins Thesaurus of the English Language
1.(Informal) Barbie (doll), dumb blonde, airhead, birdbrain, featherbrain
From the Slang Dictionary:
!. a clownlike person.
2. a giddy woman; a sexually loose woman.
From the Urban Dictionary
(which is not a dictionary at all but it’s Bimbo for your average Joe)
1. A stupid, sexually careless girl or young woman, usually but not always blonde, and usually but not always big-titted. Not as promiscuous as a slut. If a bimbo sleeps with a guy she just met, it’s just because she’s too stupid to realize she’s cheating on her boyfriend.
2. A slutty or slutty-looking girl.
3. a popular brand of Mexican bread with a cute little bear used as advertising. Mexico’s Pillsbury Doughboy.
(Ella: Tinapay? hehe)
I-translate natin sa Tagalog. Wait, I’m allowed to do that, right? Baka mademanda na naman ako
O kaya ma-accuse ng IRRESPONSIBLE TRANSLATING nyahaha

“We do not deserve this demolition job that was started by some publicity hungry bimbo…”
Let’s make it a little more interesting but with the same message- “Hindi karapat-dapat ang ganitong paninirang-puri sa amin na sinimulan ng isang estupidang babaeng mababa ang lipad na hayok sa atensiyon ng publiko…
I’ve been called by many names like bayarang Ella, bulok ella, manok, but this “bimbo” thing? Hooboy, it sure takes the cake. Kabitan mo pa ng “publicity hungry”, perfect!
And you know why it’s extra “special” for me? The name-calling was done by a respectable mature lady doctor who happens to be a cabinet secretary of President Gloria Arroyo. She is not just one of your run-of-the-mill ponsyo pilatos. Nope, she is a cabinet secretary, no less. If Inquirer printed it, dagdag bonus pa.
Akshuli, “bimbo” is considered slang. Street talk, ika nga, salitang kanto. But definitely derogatory in nature. I see her as a sweet, classy, pretty looking lola, di ba?
But alas, strange but true, tinawag niya ang isang 26-year old blogger na “tangang babaeng kaladkarin” o “estupidang babaeng pokpok”, Inglis nga lang hehe.
Unless she meant “publicity hungry bread” nyahaha. Wait, ako ba ‘yung bimbo or some random blogger? Or the entire blogosphere? Haha awesome. Walang tinutukoy eh.
Oh well, masyado naman akong balat-sibuyas. And many will say, yup, I deserved it.
Addendum and edit na tuloy: I deleted the word “libel” kasi po no “demanding” (Inglis ng demanda) nga pala dito sa blog ko.

But can you successfully counter-sue, also for libel? Probably not, because you have become a “public figure” and this means you have to prove malice on the part of Dr. Cabral, and I believe she did not act with malice. Note that Dr. C was also careful in not identifying you directly. She goes into a gray zone of the law which states that the one libeled must be identifiable by third persons. In other words, you may counter-sue Dr.C for libel but you have to come up with witnesses who will say that upon reading Dr. C’s letter, they can tell that the so-called “bimbo” was you. Obvious perhaps, but you may need to argue the case. The point, well said by others, is that you have your freedom of speech, and so does Dr. Cabral. This is what democracy is all about. And there the matter should rest (in pace).

Hi Orlando R,
Naaah, don’t worry I WON’T. Hindi ko po style ang magdemanda. Isa pa wala po akong pera for lawyers. At saka wala po akong panahon. Not really interested.
Just wanna write about it, that’s all. Siguro naman pwede pa akong magsulat no? Hindi naman bawal, di ba?
Teka po, wait lang. “Public figure” ako? I have to disagree, sir. I definitely am not.

That’s libelous !!! Kakatawa naman ito. Nawiwindang na ang magiting na sekretarya. Tinawag ka nyang “bimbo”, tawagin naman natin siyang “praning”, he he he.

… Dahil dyan, may nag-text! Ahahaha… Stay cheerful Ms. Ella.

Oh well, as advised by Mr. Orlando, hindi mo pa siya pwedeng kasuhan ng libelo dahil she indirectly called you a ‘bimbo’. Pero kung sino man ang tinutukoy nyang ‘random blogger’ dun has the right to file a libel against her right?
Well Ella, the whole blogosphere [and even the whole nation] is with you!
[Reply]
Ella, you have us (the bloggers who believes in you) at your back always.
Kidding aside, I salute you Ella for keeping your brave and wits despite being “harassed” by the public officials who are supposedly taking a constructive action from their irresponsibilities.
Just keep your head up and always stay strong for us — your blogger fans
