Solons defend blogger sued by DSWD for libel
I am at a loss for words at the support I’ve been getting from various sources. I would like to thank the numerous lawyers who have offered to handle the libel case filed against me by Secretary Cabral, as well as friends, bloggers and readers who have written to express their support.
Most of all, I would like to thank the three members of the House of Representatives who have spoken up in my behalf. Kabataan Rep. Raymond Palatino, Gabriela Rep. Liza Maza, and Akbayan Rep. Risa Hontiveros have issued statements to the media expressing their support.
I have said it before and I say it again. It was never my intention to villify Sec. Cabral, or the good people at the DSWD. My reaction at the sight of tons of relief goods which were apparently not moving was one of anger, of helplessness and dismay.
Mere blocks from where I live I could see typhoon victims, pregnant women, little children sleeping in the streets, begging for food at the time the post was written.
Deep in my heart, I know that what I did was right. That belief has not changed.
Most of the support came from the youth sector. Through the various social media, they are starting to be aware of their right to free speech. I hope they continue to be vigilant.
Our national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal was right. Ang kabataan ang pag-asa ng ating bayan.

Hi Emily,
Napansin ko rin. Pero dear, aren’t you afraid that one day, may Marshall Law-like athmosphere na rin sa FB LOL
You have to use “safe” words like allegedly, supposedly, “ayon kay”, at according to the interview? Katulad sa mga jaryo.
You have to edit, re-edit and edit once more to make sure walang libelous post sa updates mo
…or else, my friend, baka bigla ka na lang masampal ng demandang libel. It happened to blogs, right? Is Facebook, Twitter or Plurk far behind? I wonder.

Hi Jana,
Yes, they did, flooded the media with explanations and interviews with Cabral for weeks on end, opened the DSWD warehouse to volunteers, cameras were allowed inside, bumilis ang distrbution ng goods.
After all the dust has settled, they turned around and shot the messenger hahaha Funny no? Wait, sad pala ‘yon.

ella, you have sensed the urgency needed during those time and blogged out of frustration for the agency to “move the goods” faster. If they have given it all, then they had helped more. No reason to save for another day, cause it’s not theirs to keep not a second longer. The Donors gave it for the victims of Ondoy and not for the next disaster to come.

Hi Jiken,
Well, siguro emergency dictated at that time na exception to the rule ng devolution of social services ang sitwasyon. As they explained, they are only following some established procedures.

Hi gladys,
I still have faith in our justice system. ‘Yon na lang ang natitira. If this fails, tama ka, the ball is in your court.
Salamat ng marami sa suporta ng mga kababayan natin sa abroad.

I do not get why it’s gonna be a libel suit. Sinabi mo lang naman, in a not-so-journalistic way, ay ba’t ganon naiipon ang supplies dito?
Bato bato sa langit, ang tamaan, sapul agad!
