Here we are again!!! mga kamangha manghang kwento. Lets us all be reminded how powerful the mind is, that it can play tricks on us.
If it doesn’t make sense, it is also the mind that is at work. It is that powerful.
pssst, there are no dwendes, only powerful minds.
Hi Tess,
Yup, you’re right. Exactly like the bible, page after page of “kamangha-manghang kuwento”.
These stories don’t make sense, they cannot be explained by science, they boggle the mind.
Yet the bible is the best selling book of all time. Isang beses lang siyang muntik nang masapawan in terms of popularity and sales by a book about “magic” din. Alam ‘nyo na kung ano ‘yon, di ba? Harry Potter series hehe
Now tell me, dear, how do we tell the difference between one fairy tale in the bible from one in our folklore? Both have unbelievably fantastic stories. Mga kuwento ng kahiwagaan at kababalaghan.
How sure are we that the “winged being” of the bible is true and the “duwende” of Philippine folk tales is just an invention of a “powerful mind”? Or they’re both tricks played by that mind.
NOBODY HAS SEEN GOD, yet we believe in the existence of an omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent being who is the creator of all that exist.
A friend asked me once, “Ella, do you believe in God?” I said, “Yes.” He asked me again, “Why?” I said, “Why not?”
Now Tess, my friend, can you help me answer one question that’s bothering me?
Did God create us or did we create Him…..with our “powerful minds”?

In Tagalog, mga kwentong kutsero noong araw, kuwentong barbero ngayon at mga Kuwento ni Lola Basyang for all seasons.
-
“Ok, guys, be informed that YOU are my ONLY creation. If you hear that some creatures (other than YOU) walk this earth, don’t believe it. Better yet, DENY that these beings exist. Just scoff and call them myth.
GOD”
Hindi ako nakatanggap ng ganitong memo from the Big Boss kaya ayun, naniniwala tuloy ako sa mga maligno.
May masamang bisyo kasi tayong mga homo sapiens. Kapag hindi natin maipaliwanag ang isang bagay, o hindi maabot ng ating isip, o hindi mapatunayan ng agham, lalo na kapag hindi natin makita ng ating dalawang mata…IT DOES NOT EXIST.
If we cannot fully comprehend some shit, we’re afraid of it. And most people face their fears by denying the existence of that shit which scares them to hell.
Let’s make this premise a little more moronic. Nobody has seen air. Yet everyone believes it’s there. Why?
Are they elaborate hoaxes handed down from generation to generation by our ancestors? Those ignorant psycho bitches who had nothing better to do than scare little children to death?
“Oooops, bad trip, may maligno pala talaga!

I suspect na kung may dios, ginawagawa natin siya…and not the other way around. We came from our parents, and so are our parents and so on.

harcy, hi!
harcy : “agree ako sayo ate, we are not alone in here.”
Tess: I also agree that we are not alone in the sense that there are mulitudinous of creatures in this whole wonderful Universe! Yes indeed we are not alone.
harcy: “Lots of thing is unexplainable by science and yet we believed them. ”
Tess: Science and Beliefs are diametrically crossed. You will not find a Man of Science in the sense of the word looking for answere to the riddle of the Universe in a church. Science is about Proofs and religion is about faith.
It is not about “believers and nonbelievers, rather na ano ang pinaniniwalaan mo, and how did you come to hold such certainty.
If we can know how religion begat, would be a good start. Lets begin even with how religion arrived in the Philippines?
harcy: “wala naman mawawala kung maniniwala ka at magiging ready, so in case na bigla silang dumating you know what to do.”
Tess: It is error to think na “walang mawawala” “magiging ready” if you are refering to the arrival of Jesus as proposed by the bible, or our own death, either way walang ready sa atin, for who is ever, ever gonna be ready for death or a god’ coming? If I correctly remember when I was studying the Bible it said that no one knows when the son of Man cometh, so there is my contention. Walang biglang darating.
Science and Religion, ahhh its a good topic.
ty for letting me share,

Tess dear,
Tess: It is error to think na “walang mawawala” “magiging ready” if you are refering to the arrival of Jesus as proposed by the bible, or our own death”
Nah, I don’t think our friend Harcy here is referring to the “arrival of Jesus”. Medyo natawa ako dito.
If you have been reading me since I started blogging, you will know that this is the FIRST time I touched “RELIGION” …and politics for that matter.
Tess, my friend, you have your own beliefs or “non-belief” re: Supreme being. Everyone has his own.
Puwedeng pare-pareho, puwedeng magkakaiba ng paniniwala. And this blogger doesn’t give a shit (pardon the expression).
Whatever that belief is, nobody has the right to insult or deride it. Freedom of religion or worship or belief in God is a basic human right. It’s unassailable.
Religion is too complicated and too ingrained in one’s being I won’t even dare go there. Wala akong karapatang makialam. Not even for free exchange of ideas. Hindi maiiwasang makasagasa.
Therefore, hindi ako boto sa “proselytizing” or lecturing. It’s not the same as “sharing”.
This means I’m willing to listen to what anyone has to say as long as he or she respects the beliefs of the other commenters.
If you don’t believe in God, let them believe in theirs the way they want to. Please don’t make it look like you know the truth and they don’t, ok?
Let’s avoid using the words “error” and the like. Or using LOL about something that is not laughable (like the third eye). Everyone here knows what it means and it can be called by many, many names. It’s just terminology.
“Holier than thou” or to be more precise, “More knowledgeable than thou” is one attitude I will not tolerate.

Ella darling,
First thing first, we will never box, I am that much of a coward, hangang ngayon coward parin ako, in every sense of the word.
My gut reaction to “wala naman mawawala” ready made phrase is the same reaction when I hear “bahala na ang dios” na kasabihan sa atin. I cringe at them Ella, I reallydo.
Bort to a Catholic Family like most Pilipino Family, it was not until I ventured from Leyte to Manila did I found out that there were other Religions besides Catholicism. My introduction to Seventh Day Adventism is a different matter.
I had an agenda. Education.
A concientious Christian offered me, a, once in a lifetime at schooling(was at this point 18yrs old) yes Ella, oldest in the class, classmates ko Ate tawag nila sa akin. (story of my life, oldest everywhere) I did not mind, I had an agenda, Education!
As I would have it, and w/o regret, I took what good Christianity offered me and the rest …well the rest is up to me. And that pretty much had been.
Here’s a thought that I keep in mind. na ang isang taong makatarungan ay makatarungan yan kahit saan or sino man kaharap, sa labas or loob ng simbahan, sa akin lang,
I am making an effort not to appear to be“proselytizing” as I claim no religion, I am free of it, no one in their right mindna mag papamembro sa akin…I could not and would still through sermons and not say anything… being disfellowed? been there…
Ella, I am aware na marami kang young readers, impressionable, like myself may mga young nephew sumusubaybay sa blog mo dahil inembitahan ko sila dito,
So, I do not underestimate the young readers.
We can trust them, they are more open to ideas, most adult would cringe at.
You are right Ella, marami pa ang nangangapa pa lamang.
ako rin patuloy na nagangapa, we can never be too old to learn, so lets continue na mangapa.

Ella: Nah, I don’t think our friend Harcy here is referring to the “arrival of Jesus”. Medyo natawa ako dito.
Tess: Okay to laugh, a real laugh I hope. A laugh so real it’s contigeous. I mean it. Okay then…I was responding to “walang mawawala” an all too commonly used phrase, that seem to be overly used and abused for what it is worth, w/c is zero. It is a blanket statement used when non else can be sensibly said, a kind of resignation.
Ella: If you have been reading me since I started blogging, you will know that this is the FIRST time I touched “RELIGION” …and politics for that matter.
Tess: No, I have not read of you prior to Ondoy, and kudos to you, job well done! “Tumakbo” na kamo kabayo.
Ella: Sabi ni Lolo Hugo, “kung gusto mong makaaway ang kaibigan mo, pag-usapan ninyo ang relihiyon at pulitika.”
Tess: My loss na hindi ko na meet si ( LH) we would have endless sharing of experience, but then maybe I have met him. What would Lola H. think of her husband’s saying? This open another point, did the two even discussed Politics, Religion, hard to think that they did not, or was Lola H. sunodsunuran sa Lolo? inconcievable na hindi sila nagusap about politics and religion. So I’ll have to reject LH saying. Here’s why:
We are not talking about religion and we are not friends, friendship requires time, requires knowing each other, via Ondoy ang introduction mo sa akin .neither do I feel that there’s an enemy here , only powerful minds, I think.
Ella: Puwedeng pare-pareho, puwedeng magkakaiba ng paniniwala. And this blogger doesn’t give a shit (pardon the expression).
Tess: rhetoric! It is precisely that! That you give a dung!about, for what explains such puerile stance on Religion and Politics? It is untrue that a discussion about religion or politics is detriment to friendship., We are not friends, but thankyou for the reference and as far as I’m concern we are not enemies, I am not petty like that. I have very very thick skin.
Ella : nobody has the right to insult or deride it. Freedom of religion or worship or belief in God is a basic human right. It’s unassailable.
Tess: Yes, I agree with you. If yo are saying that I am that person, then I must asked you, where in my post did this occur? I deride someone or insult anyone about the so called basic human right.
Freedom of religion? nah, its a misnomer. It is a contadictory of a term, fundamentally flawed. Name a religion that’s do not indoctrinate. It is business , tax free income and panakip ng mga butas.
Ella: Religion is too complicated and too ingrained in one’s being I won’t even dare go there. Wala akong karapatang makialam. Not even for free exchange of ideas. Hindi maiiwasang makasagasa.
Tess: : religion being complicated? of course it is, ingrained, yap. It is complicated yes, One must turn inside and gnaw at the self and question, the self, is it really a dwende I saw? it is nonsense and I doubt that after this “rebuttal” this dwendes ever show themselves up again, anyone betting?
Ella: ingrained in one’s being I won’t even dare go there. Wala akong karapatang makialam. Not even for free exchange of ideas. Hindi maiiwasang makasagasa.
Tess: it is ingrained, we know why., baptisd them before they become aware of other beliefs, so how is this “free reign” ing? would you hear about dwendes elsewhere but in the Philipines?
Ella: If you don’t believe in God, let them believe in theirs the way they want to. Please don’t make it look like you know the truth and they don’t, ok?
Tess: See this is precisely how things gets inbedded, or as you termed it “ingrained” by fostering unbelievable claims, not checking for proofs and by mere parroting, am guessing that’s one way, another is by circumstance.
Ella: Let’s avoid using the words “error” and the like. Or using LOL about something that is not laughable (like the third eye). Everyone here knows what it means and it can be called by many, many names. It’s just terminology.
Tess, the third eye is laughable, LOL, prrove to me that such a thing exist!!!
Ella: “Holier than thou” or to be more precise, “More knowledgeable than thou” is one attitude I will not tolerate.
Tess: Rhetoric, lets be done with that.
Niether will I let pass the false claim about dwendes or one having a third eye, now that is laughable! lol
Lastly, truth any kind of truth being claimed must be supported by evidence, otherwise it is hearsay.
“Tess, my friend, you have your own beliefs or “non-belief” re: Supreme being. Everyone has his own. ”
I’ve no consideration for any kind of “Supreme being” Ella my friend, Everyone has an opinion, yes, just think if everyone is correct in their opinion, it would be a perfect world, but everyone is not right in their opinion, yes, they may share much like am sharing now, though you call it otherwise, but it doesn’t mean I’ve toagree, or even respect something, just because it came from a ‘powerful ind’ so patuloy tayon “mangapa”.
So there is your rebuttal Obot, for whatevr it is worth.

totoo rin ang sinabi ni Lolo Hugo [whoever he is], “kung gusto mong makaaway ang kaibigan mo, pag-usapan ninyo ang relihiyon at pulitika.”
sa sobrang dami ng relihiyon at paniniwala na nage-exist sa mundo, even the biggest and widest encyclopedia have no right to make a firm and definite stand. the story or opinion of any person tackling such subject should keep the story open, because the topic does not end on one person’s share of the story.
i guess this is not a debate or the likes. it’s just one of those ‘conversations’ that have been opened years ago but have not concluded even now.

Lolo Hugo is right on his observation. But I think it shouldn’t be that way. Why is it when it comes to religion everyone is expected to back-off (oh noes, dun touch HIS religion; plz have respect) but when it comes to everything else like food, fashion taste, politicians, choice of movies, etc., it’s ok to ridicule or derile the other’s beliefs (Kapuso sucks, Kapamilya all the way!)
Let’s take it to the extreme. Muslim extremists “believe” or have “faith” that bombing Americans will send them to heaven along with 72 virgins. Are we expected to stay silent?
Mind you, I’m only for the exchange of ideas (war, if you will) But it doesn’t mean you should be offended or we can’t be friends. We do it everyday because we are not accord in everything (Ex. I’m for Erap and you’re for Noynoy but we’re still friends) Scientists do it all the time (I’m for theory X and you’re for theory Y, let’s debate, but we’re still friends). Why does it have to be different on religion? Because in that sense, and if it should be that way, then religion is the only idea, unlike any other, that creates an image of us against them. And by its very nature, that’s a very good argument for disliking or abolishing religion.
P.S: Encyclopedias already made a firm stand against paganism, idolatry, and the ancieeeeent religions. If today’s religion gets treated same as “just a hypothesis” it’s one less burden for encyclopaedias.

Hi Alle,
“…then religion is the only idea, unlike any other, that creates an image of us against them. And by its very nature, that’s a very good argument for disliking or abolishing religion.”
Well argued, Alle. If anyone is interested, I myself believe in Nietzsche’s superman although one will never see me trying to convince or influence anyone of the superiority of the superman idea over any other religion.
The bottom line is the nature of belief which boils down to “playing safe.”
“The superman is an individual who derives strength from that which is tangible (namely, his own self). Christianity, on the other hand, places a level of importance on the conjectures of the unseen.”
To make a long story short, mahirap tanggapin ang superman idea because it means there is no life after death. Kapag namatay ka, you will simply not exist, as in there is nothing more after death. Zero, nada, zilch.
…which is the exact opposite of the Christian faith.
“For the superman, since there is no afterlife, to do anything other than make the most of this life would be unthinkable.”
He tries all his life to attain what is actually attainable in this world. Because he has only one shot at being, he strives for perfection here and now and not the life after.

Hi obot,
Marami ng replies si Tess but I was trying to decide if I’ll let her blog inside my blog lolz
I noticed she loves discussions or “conversations” as you nicely put it.
No offense meant, Tess.
If the comment is addressed to me, fine. Bring it on.
Some of the commenters were made to look like idiots just because they happen to believe in the “WRONG” things. Trust me, ganoon ang dating.
I’ll let a comment or a reply see the light of day in this blog as long as it does not draw the others into a freaking USELESS AND ENDLESS DEBATE (which nobody really gives a shit about).
EACH READER IS ENTITLED TO HIS OR HER OWN OPINION ABOUT A POST, BE IT PRO OR CON. But precisely because opinions are subjective, there are no right and wrong opinions.
It seems ang dali kong ma-piss off, right, Obot? Yup, maybe coz I’ve had it up to here. Ang dami ko nang isinukang know-it-all comments in my infamous “horsey” post. They left a permanent bad taste in my mouth.
I’ve allowed them in my blog once. And once is more than I can take.

@ Tess,
“Ate, I know what little children look like,” simpleng sagot ng kapatid ko.
Tess: is it really a dwende I saw? it is nonsense and I doubt that after this “rebuttal” this dwendes ever show themselves up again, anyone betting?
You must be referring to another blog. In my story, NOBODY CLAIMED to have seen duwendes anywhere and anytime, not my sister, not me. Did you read the post where you made the comment about dwendes?
See, the title itself said “KUWENTONG MULTO” not “KUWENTONG DUWENDE”.
In my story, I was simply asking my sister a question in jest to lessen the seriousness of the situation.
She said she saw two children siiting on the grass at twelve midnight. NOBODY saw duwendes. Why are you so hot about those duwendes?
To reiterate, Tess, Ana saw two little people sitting, standing up and then walking towards us. If they’re not duwendes, then they were children… or ghosts of children. Should I now gear up for a discussion on GHOSTS and SPIRITS?
BTW, Tess, I studied duwendes, engkantadas, nuno sa punso and the rest of the gang extensively under myths, legends and folklore when I was in college taking up AB Literature. That’s why I know a lot about ‘em “tricks of the mind” creatures.
Sorry, folks, wala akong magagawa, part of the curriculum. And I had to make a thesis about them creatures hehe
Sa totoo lang Tess, you can call them nonsense, tricks of the mind or whatevah you want. Still, they are and always will be an integral part of world literature…SOMETHING YOU’RE OBVIOUSLY NOT!! harhar
Sus kainggit na mga duwende ‘yan.

Mike and Kat,
Feelingera kasi.
Baka the woman is sick…in her “powerful mind”?
Sabi kasi niya, “I (Teresita) have arrived”…kasi raw na-paranoid si Ella sa kanya. Meaning natatakot ako kay lola? Naawa ulit ako eh. That comment was just sick, sobrang pathetic na, it made me sad
